Some say that if you let something go, and it comes back… it was meant to be. Well, how about recording a podcast? Well, this week’s podcast won’t ever come back (or something). Due to unforseen circumstances, we won’t be releasing this week’s ‘cast. Funny, it might the the podcast that I get the rantiest on. Maybe the rant will make its way into a future episode.

Anyway, I did want to mention the couple upcoming Boston events that were discussed on the episode that wasn’t meant to be.

First is the Dillinger Escape Plan playing at the Middle East on October 25th just ahead of their next studio album Ire Works. For all you mathcore fans, this is sure to be one of the best shows of the year. Hopefully, I can wrangle up a ticket.

Also, for all you (as Carl puts it) Pet geeks, there is Barktoberfest (I wish I were kidding) at the 4H Fairgrounds on Sunday September 16th.

That does it. Save space on your iPod for this week’s episode…

And the passing of Mr. Wizard (a.k.a. Don Herbert). There is no GameGeek Challenge (congrats, Greg!), but we fill in with talk of Wang. (Note: The name Wang is shared by an estimated 9.9% of the Chinese population. Maybe not 900 million, but more than 100 million. That’s a LOT of Wang.)

On Boston in Brief, we discuss PortConMaine, and the 4th of July festivities along the Charles River.

This week anyway. Some claim technical difficulties. Episode 82 was great, too. I mean, really great.

Unfortunately, The actual IT person in the room (me) was asleep at the helm. And it didn’t occur to me what a horrific idea it was that the only backup recorder in the room to Colin’s wonky-behaving iMac was Karl’s wonky-behaving laptop.

So, you know, fuck me. I’m not sure who or what I am pissed off at, but between a sound guy, a programmer, and an IT guy, we all managed to fuck it up. We’ll try not to let it happen again. We’ll be back for Episode 82 (The Rewind) this weekend.

Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if some die-hard fan doesn’t want to take a wet, knotted rope to our balls.

We discuss 9 geek movies we feel everyone should see on this episode. No, I won’t list them here. I don’t want to spoil it, that’s why. This may become a semi-regular feature for the podcast. We will discuss movies great and not-so-great that advance geekiness. No snooty Academy, no pretentious James Lipton. Just geeks and the movies they’ve seen.

I wish it were more epic. After being in some stage of undeath for nearly two weeks, Colin finally cleared up enough to record. So we took a week off. Eh, our loyal subjects will forgive us… hello? Loyal subjects?

Eh, at any rate, in this week’s episode we are once again joined by our good friend and BostonGeek Maestro Karl Kornfeld. The three of us discuss the iPhone, three-breasted hookers in a future nuclear wasteland (sooner than we thought), and Holiday console numbers. We dip our toes in the depth that is Apple and their new brand, and on Boston in Brief we talk (rant) about violent videogame legislation being authored right here in Massachussetts by everyone’s most loathed ass-pony turdsucker, Jack B. Thompson.

Oh, were you done? Well, allow me to retort! On this episode, I say the word ’spooktacular’ no less than three times because I am 50% of BostonGeek and I can. On the Geek Top 3, we discuss universal translators and bad kung fu movies, how moderate drinking improves memory, and Sony v. Lik-Sang. Greg Holwey brings us another installment of the Game Geek Challenge, and on Boston in brief we discuss Boston Celtics legend Red Auerbach and remind people to vote.

On this sleek episode, we stretch the legs on our new mixer, battling poorly designed manuals and strange interfaces to bring you a better sound experience. On the Tech Top 3, we discuss how the Telcos just can’t shake the image that they enjoy raping their customers, how Diebold (a major manufacturer of ATMs) is at the center of a maelstrom of crappitude involving their infamous voting machines, and how Sony might be foisting off bad batteries on Dell and Apple. On the Gaming Table, in what is sure to enrage the Yeti, we discuss how Settlers of Cataan and Carcassonne are coming to XBOX Live, and how Dan the Automator is producing the soundtrack for NBA:2K7. We also mention an upcoming new segment from our new podcast contributor and cool blogger Greg Howley. Finally, on Boston in Brief, we talk about dames on skates, and the hotness that entails.

Actually, Greg Howley, a longtime fan of our podcast, has teamed up with us to produce an as-yet unnamed segment for our Gaming Table portion of the ‘cast.

He’s a cool guy, one of the first to win one of our giveaways, and we hope you’ll enjoy his contribution.

Welcome Greg. And to our other fans we say, “Rejoice, for our ascension is at hand!”

Colin’s Addendum: And, we will have some new content for Math Geeks arriving shortly in the form of a weekly article chock full of mathematical goodness. I will leave it at that, so as to build up suspense or something.

Carl’s Post-script:Â As long as we don’t end up with “There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don’t,” I am also looking forward to it.

Ok, here’s the deal. I am going to beg for votes. If you care not to witness it, just head to Podcast Alley and vote for the BostonGeek Podcast.

//Begin Begging

You see, each month, Podcast Alley ranks the top podcasts. The top 10 podcasts are featured on the frontpage. Since this ranking is calculated in real-time, alot of movement in the rankings can be seen in the early part of the month. BostonGeek can get a bit of exposure if we are able to sit in the top 10 for any period of time. We don’t receive money, chicks, or massages with happy endings… just the possibility of attracting new listeners. If you want to help us out, votes early on in the month can be a great help. So, if you enjoy the podcast… please vote. If you hate the podcast and would enjoy having others share your misery… please vote. If you love America… crap, I can’t bring myself to do it. Anyway, please vote.

Vote here.

Thanks.

It’s up to Carl to discuss how AOL is committing extorion, how Steve Jobs kills puppies, and how TiVo got a TKO against EchoStar. On the Gaming Table, Carl again pulls through with a review of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and a quick take on UbiSoft’s smart decision to ditch russian gangster front StarForce. Colin surfaces just long enough to help talk about the nude hotties of Girls of CS and White Wolf’s Wiki. On Boston in Brief, we take a quick look at the Dresden Dolls new album “Yes, Virginia…” and discuss their upcoming concert. We also remind people about IFF Boston and the free 3-month subscription to XBOX Live Gold we’re giving away.
