WWSJD @ WWDC

Ok, so it is about 2 hours or so until all those within the range of the RDF begin refreshing sites that liveblog Teh Steve during his keynote at WWDC.    Let’s hope the intartubes can hold up.
Of course, headlining the keynote is expected to be some talk of the iPhone with its release date just [...]

Carl Has ‘Switched’

“Hi, I’m a Mac.”
“And I’m a PC.”
So begins Apple’s latest round of clever television advertisements. Surely you’ve seen them, and if not, you can easily find them, and the parodies of them, on sites like YouTube. So I won’t bore you with an explanation.
But if you watch the ads, and have listened to [...]

This is a short post.  A little information, a little reminder, and a little rant.
STOP criticizing Boot Camp.  People have started complaing that in some cases, installing Boot Camp and Windows XP works, but then people can no longer boot into OSX.
It’s a public beta.  Apparently people selectively ignore or otherwise choose to forget that [...]

Looks like Larry Hryb, a.k.a. Major Nelson, has decided his next laptop will be Apple’s MacBook Pro. Why would a sergeant an officer in the Microsoft Army state this publicly on his blog? Well, simple, he now has the option to run Windows XP on his MacBook Pro. In fact, Apple has [...]

It began on MacRumors, with someone posting a link to a file that supposedly contained pictures of OSX Leopard (a.k.a 10.5). Some excited Apple fanatics eagerly downloaded the file to their computers and promptly went clicking away. “The Sky is falling!”
Well, the linked file was in fact an archive (latestpic.tgz). So, after [...]

I still like my iMac G5

10.4.3 released

Hopefully more treat than trick, Apple has released 10.4.3. Said to fix hundreds of bugs, the release installer is approximately 100MB in size.
The 10.4.3 Update delivers overall improved reliability and compatibility for Mac OS X v10.4 and is recommended for all users.
It includes fixes for:
- AFP, SMB/CIFS, NFS and FTP network file services
- AirPort [...]

Thank you, Apple.

Thank you, Apple. Not only did you ship my copy of Tiger on time and have it delivered on April 29th, but you also did a bang up job with the OS. I have only fiddled with my install of Tiger, but I can see how it will change the way I do [...]

OSX 10.4 (Tiger)

Note from Colin:
Check out pics of Tiger Launch Events. Yet again, big crowds at the Ginza, Japan store.
Original Post by Carl:
I’m no Apple Fanboy, but after reading this review of OSX 10.4 at Ars Technica, I can’t help but be impressed.

I’d say it was a good day.

My copy of Tiger just shipped from Apple and should be on my doorstep by Friday… and I just scored tickets to a special advance screening of Serenity on May 5th (almost 5 months before its release).

4 more days.

Here are a few pics, just for the purpose of annoying Carl.
Oh, and 4 more days till the Tiger release.

A little closure…

Update: 10.3.9 sucks donkey balls. Well, ok, maybe not quite… But it does have some Java issues that require some attention.
Original Article: So, as I write this I am dowloading the 10.3.9 update to Mac OSX Panther that was just released. There really isn’t a great reason for me to install [...]

17 days, and counting…

Apple has finally updated the OSX page on their website to include information about Tiger’s release. Looks like this cat will pounce on Friday, April 29th. Woo hoo!

CherryOS update.

The CherryOS website states “CherryOS is On Hold - until further notice.” and nothing else. The Maui X-Stream website has no mention of the product.
Macworld Article: Mac emulator CherryOS “on hold”

So close. So very close.

Rumor has it that OSX 10.4 has been declared Gold Master today. This means that there is a decent chance Apple will make a formal announcement with regards to Tiger launch plans tomorrow.
I am so giddy.

Holy cow… look at this!

What makes me drool even more than I normally would, is the fact that Jillian’s in Boston doesn’t have a video arcade anymore.

Google pays homage to OSX

See Carl, OSX isn’t just for artists and BoBo’s. It’s for geeks, too. Well, at least the geeks at Google like it.
Update:Looks like the page has been removed from Google. Maybe this wasn’t meant to surface until the upcoming Apple anniversary (which hopefully coincides with the release of Tiger)? [...]

There is a story about George Washington cutting down a cherry tree that is meant to teach children about telling the truth. If only the folks producing CherryOS would have paid attention to that tale in elementary school.

If you go over to Apple Downloads, you will notice that there are a few extra categories present. Unfortunately, the links lead to nowhere at this point. But, it would be easy to speculate that this could mean Tiger is just around the corner.
Here is a screenshot, for those that are too lazy [...]

OSX Security Update

Apple has released security update 2005-002. This update is (primarily) in response to potential security flaws in Java that would allow an applet to write/overwrite documents and perform other such nastiness.
