Hawt.

No, not Tina (although, she is pretty damn cute), but that black box on the table next to her.  Tina Wood gets the lowdown on the Xbox 360 Elite and shares it via a video inerview with Albert Penello.
View the Elite in all its glory.
By the way, anyone want to buy a Premium system used [...]

Carl’s Tech Tip #3

This tech tip hails from the deep halls of my mind, a dark place filled with horrors and twisted imaginings.
Have you ever noticed that sometimes you install a program on your PC, and it launches some part of itself when you first boot? Apple’s Quicktime, for example, loads the ‘qttask.exe’ process, even if you [...]

Few details have been revealed, but Microsoft has announced their intent to purchase Boston-based software virtualization company Softricity today. No doubt, the virtualization technologies will find their way into the upcoming update to the Windows operating system, Windows Vista.
Edit: Ok, I was told I should mention that I worked for Softricity sometime before my [...]

Apparently, there is a new category in the in the Xbox Live Arcade, “Camera-Enabled Games.” There is one game already available for download, Uno. How exactly is Uno a camera-enabled game? Dunno.

Apple’s Sky is NOT Falling!

Okay, so Colin pointed me to an article over at Geek News Central, supposedly from a developer’s perspective. It’s a response to Boot Camp, the new Public Beta from Apple that will allow owners of the new Intel-based Macs to run Windows XP (and, possibly, Linux). She goes to great length to point [...]

Looks like Larry Hryb, a.k.a. Major Nelson, has decided his next laptop will be Apple’s MacBook Pro. Why would a sergeant an officer in the Microsoft Army state this publicly on his blog? Well, simple, he now has the option to run Windows XP on his MacBook Pro. In fact, Apple has [...]

First free Gold weekend!

Some of you may own an Xbox 360, but still have yet to commit to the Live experience by subscribing to Xbox Live Gold.  I suppose I can forgive you.  However, much like a crack dealer hands out the occasional free rock, Microsoft is holding a Free Xbox Live Gold Weekend at the end of [...]

IE7 Beta 2

Well, as mentioned before, I wasn’t able to install IE7 on my own computer, since I don’t currently have a Windows machine.  I did manage to install it on someone else’s laptop, unfortunately they didn’t like it so much.  It wasn’t that the interface was too difficult to get used to, it was that there [...]

IE7 Beta 2 Released

If you simply must live life on the bleeding edge, and you don’t mind installing potentially buggy software on your system, you might be interested in the latest public beta release of Internet Explorer 7.  I have not fully tested IE7 yet, but it has some features that I do like.  Of course, tabbed browsing [...]

The more I think about Vista…

… the more I like it.  I have seen quite a few demos of it and read quite a bit about the new features that will be implemented, and each time I do, I feel better about this next version of the Windows operating system.
It is true that one could argue that the next version [...]

Looks like Microsoft decided it couldn’t afford to wait for Tuesday to release a security fix for the Windows Metafile flaw that many security experts have deemed extremely critical. If you are running a version of Windows (excluding Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, and Windows ME), you should head on over to Microsoft’s website [...]

It’s 1 day after launch…

… and I don’t have an Xbox 360.
Oh cruel world.

We mentioned Google Print in Episode 3 of our weekly podcast. Google is in trouble over their desire to index books for the masses to be able to search. The publishing world is in an uproar.
So why, oh why is Microsoft declaring their intentions to do the same thing okay?
Well, there are a [...]

Of Microsoft and Zombies

Perfectly timed for halloween comes a story of Microsoft hunting down spammers using a zombie.
Microsoft set-up a clean Windows PC and infected it with malicious code (I am guessing this part was particularly easy), in effect, turning it into a zombie. In just 20 days, the zombie PC received 5 million connection requests from [...]

What to do today…

… now that Xbox Live is down for maintenance.
If you listened to the latest installment of the BostonGeek Podcast, you probably know that we had discussed what people can do today while Xbox Live is down for maintenance. I thought I would post a list to help all those who are suffering.

Read a book
Shower [...]

So, there is an interesting read over at ExtremeTech that attempts to show what the computing world would be like without Microsoft. It is a fun read… especially considering the author brings back to life my beloved Commodore computer (although, they are bought by HP… oh well).
There is no doubt that having a standard [...]

Yep. On MTV, of all places, instead of the typical unveiling at E3.

64bit Windows is almost here.

Looks like Microsoft has released the 64-bit versions of their operating systems to manufacturers. This should mean consumers will have access to it real soon. So much OS news this month!
