Hey, guys, I don’t normally leave feedback but just wanted to drop you a line.
Okay, so you’ve got the video podcast, but how do I subscribe to it? Is it just an experiment for now, or is there a way to force iTunes to add it to my list?
By the way, I love the show, but the intro seems to be unbelievably long now. The music goes on forever and never says what the show is until we get through to you guys announcing it. I think the old intro was better because it got right to the damn point and was a lot more engaging. After you’ve listened to two episodes you’ll likely just fast forward through the intro anyway.
I have to agree with Steve. The video intro is insanely long. Maybe if you had a minute long segment before it with one of you guys giving a run down to the show it wouldn’t be as bad. I pretty much fast forward through it now.
Hey Steve — Thanks for the feedback. You can certainly say the video is an experiment right now. Although, we will be offering a separate feed that can be subscribed to via iTunes (or your favorite aggregator). As for the intro, ya, we are kinda aware of its length and will probably look to shortening it a bit. But, I dig the music that Karl provides for the show, so it remains. I anticipate many changes over the next few weeks/months, so keep the feedback coming.
I’m not sure I understand how to make you guys happy. The video intro is exactly 60 seconds; one lousy minute - that’s 20% shorter the old audio intro. The audio intro didn’t say it was the BostonGeek podcast until 35 seconds in, the video starts off with “BostonGeek presents,” and then says “BostonGeek Podcast” at less than 3½ seconds.
We eliminated the “headlines” segment of the old audio cast as part of a number of steps we took to keep the podcasts short(er) since we had received complaints about the length/file size. We have discussed adding this back in as a teaser to the video cast, but have not yet decided whether or not do do it.
We are continuing to refine, and just plain get used to many aspects of the video casting and editing process. I’d like to point out that the video will be our primary means of podcasting from now on. The audio version is extracted from the video without any aditional editing.
Seriously, its actually shorter? Honestly it seemed longer. Maybe its the stream of pictures. In all seriousness, I am not trying to be negative or an asshole, but I always thought the old intro was too long as well even though I enjoy the music.
As for the “headlines” segment, if a person hasn’t been keeping track of which of the video ones they have watched and due to the fact that show notes have appeared since Episode 101 I think, there’s no way of knowing if you’ve seen an episode until a minute or two in.
And honestly, I enjoyed the old format better. I had no problem with the length of the podcast when it used to be on average 45 minutes. I thought you guys actually did a better job of discussing things and talked about more material back during the pre-video podcasts.
I’m tossing my hat in and saying that I much prefer the audio ‘casts over the vidcasts with audio extracted. I listen at work or in the car, hence no need for video, and the audio quality isn’t up to par with the earlier episodes.
not complaints - I know it’s a WIP Just tossing that out there as a long time listener/reader. Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose.

EDIT: “..due to the fact that show notes have NOT appeared since Episode 101…”
