acrobrau.jpgBrewery: Arcobrau Grafliches Brauhaus, Moos, Bayern, Germany

Brewery Description: Couldn’t find one for some reason, the website was all in German and I didn’t see anything that looked like a description anywhere. This beer is also known as Arcobrau Weissbier Dunkel.

Brew Style: Dunkelweizen, 5.3% ABV

Recommended Glassware: Stein, Weizen

The Ugly Truth: This one was a strange one. I’m off two minds on it. On one hand, I’ve had much much better dark wheat/dunkelweizens before. On the other hand, I could quite easily see myself sitting down and drinking a six pack of this if I was just looking for a beer to drink. The beer poured a cloudy, chestnut brown color with a monstrous head on it that had nothing to do with how I poured it. Dominant aroma of wheat to it, and the wheat pretty much ran the show as far as the taste went as well. It had a medium body, flavor wasn’t overpowering nor did it really jump out and make you take notice. It was just kind of there. That being said, I still found it refreshing with a fairly clean taste and finish that had a hint of sweetness to me. Again, it just wasn’t anything special. If you are looking for a dark wheat to just have around and drink, this isn’t bad. If you want a really good dark wheat/dunkelweizen, for the ones I’ve had I’d go with the Julius Echter Hefeweiss Dunkel or if they ever put it out agian the James Madison Dark Wheat from Sam Adams.

The Verdict:The Arcobrau falls short on the acrobatics, and drops 6 out of 10 bottlecaps.
