BostonGeek Podcast: Episode 83

This week on the Geek Top Three, is it an alien invasion, or did Dick Cheney drink all that water? Sleazy private firm wants to make ALL DVD copying illegal… again. And Manhunt 2 kicked, bashed, and banned… then delayed.

On Boston in Brief, MIT Swapfest, John Edward (aka Biggest Douch in the Universe) is coming to Boston (but, you knew that), and MFA Wine Tasting.

Links to a couple of things I mention at the end of the cast:
Encore score writing software and my unpaid endorsement of it.
    Reason synthesis and sequencing software

I could not find a link to the BBQ place we all liked so much. It’s called North Carolina Bar-B-Que, they’re from Virginia and they served us “Memphis Ribs.” What a country!

Argh! Screwed up the Reason link. Go here: http://www.propellerheads.se/

Also here’s the texting twins Carmen and Camille.

Independence Day was all Roland Emmerich, no other director.

As for Micheal Bay, this his list of movies for the last 20 years.

    Bad Boys: good movie
The Rock: decent movie, I liked it
Armageddon: good movie, not great but a good movie.
Pearl Harbor: granted never saw it, but I’ve been told by a large number of people that it sucks.
Bad Boys II: yeah it wasn’t good.
The Island: didn’t see it, but I don’t remember it being around long.
Transformers: its gonna not be good, stop fooling yourself Carl.

    Movies he has produced:

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre remake (2003)
    The Amityville Horror remake
    The Island
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: The Beginning
    The Hitcher remake
    Transformers

He does not have a good record of directing/producing good movies.

I forgot to add. What he does have a good track record of is directing and producing movies that do make money which is all the studios care about.

Didn’t watch the Bad Boys movies, but then again… Not a huge fan of Will Smith. I despised Armageddon and Pearl Harbor. The Island was really lame (which is a shame) and The Rock was not all that good.

He is a hack, imo, that has made a career out of creating hour and a half long music videos.

  6. 6 Dave

No, seriously. Pearl Harbor was way longer than 90 minutes. At least it felt that way…

  7. 7 Carl

    Pearl Harbor – 183 minutes
    The Rock – 136 minutes
    Bad Boys – 118 inutes
Bad Boys II – 147 minutes
    Armageddon – 150 minutes
    The Island – 136 minutes
    Transformers – 143 minutes

Not a single one came close to 90 minutes. :-)

  8. 8 Colin

Maybe an hour and a half was the longest I could bare to sit through the shit he churns out.

  9. 9 Big Remy

A comment on IMDB by someone who has seen the movie confirms my fear

Continue to mock Bad Boys and we’re going to have words, Colin.

  11. 11 Dave

    (not 2…2 sucked)

  12. 12 Big Remy

What, you had a problem with rogue elements of the Miami Police Department invading Cuba?

  13. 13 Dave

No, I had a problem with the movie sucking while they did that. Also with the disappointing lack of naked Gabrielle Union, and the limited Rollins screentime.
