Carl and I weren’t disagreeing (for a change). My comment was just to put Wiz’s condecention in the perspective of the times. In retrospect it’s kinda cool that he had girls on the show at all and no doubt there are women scientists out there who claim Watch Mr. Wizard was an inspiration toward their careers.

Don Herbert began as Mr. Wizard in 1951.

The first series went from 1951-1972, as “Watch Mr. Wizard”.
A Canadian version went from 1971-1975
Then I think he took a break and came back as “Mr. Wizard’s World” from 1983-1991.

Karl is right about how he treated girls versus boys on the show mainly because women weren’t supposed to be scientists in the 50’s. There’s a quote from Watson of Watson and Crick where I think he says that women really don’t belong in science.

Nickelodeon started in 1979.

Kinda wondering why Carl was concerned with the “historical accuracy” of the Viking-style helmet I wanted to wear at an American-Chineese restaurant while eating crab rangoon (not Chineese) and drinking “tropical” drinks (designed in temperate areas)….
