Brewery: Boston Beer Company, Boston, MA
Brewery Description: “Samuel Adams® Honey Porter is a full-flavored, full-bodied English porter with a substantial roasted malt character, offering a smooth, rounded finish. This beer is brewed with traditional English Ale hops and is dry-hopped with East Kent Goldings, known for their spicy aroma and distinctive, earthy flavor. We brew Honey Porter with Scottish heather honey which balances the spiciness of the hops. This brew is the perfect complement to glazed ham, spicy chili, and roasted vegetables like beets and carrots, which bring out the herbal notes found in the hops and the sweetness of the honey. Samuel Adams® Honey Porter also pairs well with rich desserts such as baklava and molasses cookies.”
Brew Style: Porter, 5.3% ABV
Recommended Glassware: English pint, Stem glass
The Ugly Truth: Alright, beer #2 in the Sam Adams six pack I had grabbed this time around. The Black Lager was good but not great, but I had hopes for this one. I was not disappointed, not blown away but definitely not disappointed. So the Honey Porter poured a nice deep amber color with a frothy, midsized head to it. The beer had a decent aroma, with some notes of sweetness and malt. I liked the taste, it had a medium body to it that was enjoyable. The mouthfeel was hearty with some sweetness to it which lingered into the finish and the aftertaste. It was good. Definitely a beer that I could drink more of, especially after a long day toiling away doing electrophysiology. Its like working in a salt mine, I tell you. It also went down quite smooth and quick after an evening of 3 hours of volleyball. Good stuff, so far ranked the top out of the three beers in the six pack. The Brown Ale is next week.
Verdict: I’m blanking. For a moment I was trying to work out some joke about a 7-10 split in bowling and throwing a porter or something…I don’t know. Its a 7 out of 10 bottlecaps.
This review makes beer #80. I may throw a party for myself when I hit review 100.
At any rate, I think #100 should be celebrated by all loyal Beer Roster readers. We’ll have to come up with a name for people and send out membership cards. If you can find all the beers I’ve had and drink them, we’ll make a t-shirt or something with the all caps and I’ll sign it or we publish a book of the reviews and I’ll sign it.
I’m sure there are like, three people who would be interested
Aww, I’m sorry Remy. I can’t come to your party. I’m busy that day. When is it?
That’s not nice
Sorry. Just joking around, man.
No problem, I was joking too.
