I’m going to make a new effort to get any beer that is classified a seasonal or special release reviewed and posted faster than I have in the past.

60 WinksBrewery: Magic Hat Brewing Company, South Burlington, Vermont

Brewery Description: Mystery beer celebrating Alan’s 60th birthday, brewed in the German Pilsner tradition.

Brew Style: Pilsener, 5.8% ABV

Recommended Glassware: Flute, Footed Pilsner

The Ugly Truth: More good beer from Magic Hat. This time it is 60 Winks, their German style pilsener. So looking around there was some less than favorable reviews that I saw, and once again I think they are a bit off the mark. I really enjoyed this beer. Upon pouring, it was straw yellow in color with a light thin head to it with a good aroma. I found 60 Winks to be a great tasting pilsener, with a light mouthgfeel and a nice dry finish to it. I thought it was very smooth and thirst quenching, without any strong bitterness or sweetness to it. I thought it was a very good, classical tasting pilsener. I actually had trouble not just downing the whole glass after tasting it. In the overall world of pilseners, it may not be the best one out there, but it is certainly not the worst. If you are looking for a pilsener to just drink and enjoy, you really couldn’t go wrong with picking up 60 Winks.

Verdict: It only took counting to 8 out of 10 bottlecaps in order for me to fall asleep.

The newfangled Sam Adams beer glass - your thoughts?

I am hopefully getting some for my birthday (March), so I’ll let you know then. I’ll buy a six of Sam Adams and use a regular pint glass and that to do a true comparison.
