So while some people aren’t posting things cause they are away or just plain wussies, I am here diligently drinking and reviewing beers for the pleasure of the masses. So here’s the latest one:

Brewery: Belhaven(Greene King), Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotland (okay, I hunted the web and couldn’t find the website for it anywhere. Even the Belhaven website had nothing.)
Brewery Description: (from a different website) Belhaven Wee Heavy has a rich deep flavor that derives from the greater proportion of malted barley to hops which characterized Scottish ales of the 19th century. A beer to be sipped, savoured and fully respected.

Brew Style: Scotch Ale, 6.5% ABV

Recommended Glassware: Thistle

The Ugly Truth: Belhaven Wee Heavy was a fantastic Scotch Ale. I was looking to see what some others thought of it and I swear there are people who either have no idea what a bitter actually is, or they are just complete pussies. This beer was not bitter, anyone who says this is bitter might as well be a 3 year girl named Sally. Wee Heavy poured a nice, dark red color with a solid frothy white head that left foam rings as it went down. Thats another lesson for beer drinkers out there. If the head on the beer leaves rings on the glass as it goes down, it is almost always a good beer. Moving on. The taste of Belhaven was extremely smooth. I honestly thought it would have been heavier tasting for something called Wee Heavy since they usually have a higher ABV but this is only 6.5% ABV. The body I found to be medium, but extremely tasty and quite pleasing. I found the taste to have some toffee/caramel overtones to it that melded well with the malted barley to make an overall great flavor. The finish was fairly mild, just kind of fading off without any sharp bite to it. This is probably my second favorite Scotch Ale on the market that I’ve tried, Skullsplitter being the first. I definitely recommend giving it a try.

The Verdict: Take it from this Fat Bastard, Belhaven Wee Heavy deserves a 9 out of 10 bottlecaps.
