Brewery: Greene King, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England (Ruddles County also has its own website that has some fun games and cool stuff, which can be found here)
Brewery Description: “Ruddles County is famed for its dry, bitter flavour, which comes from using the rare Bramling Cross hops. Many liken the flavour to burnt toffee and caramel which, when combined with the dry bitterness, gives a very pleasing taste. It really is the ultimate bitter-lovers’ bitter.”
Brew Style: Premium Bitter/ESB, 4.7% ABV
Recommended Glassware: English pint
The Ugly Truth: I will never, never never never enjoy a bitter as much as this one. Ruddles County is like the Holy Grail of Bitters, it just tastes that good. It pours a coppery amber color with a fairly light head. I was actually getting worried after the pour because it barely had a head on it, and as we all know no head equals horrible beer. The aroma wasn’t really strong but it smelled like a good solid beer. Then I tasted it. Now I love bitters, this is known and I’ve had some great bitters before, but nothing is as perfectly balanced as this. It was fantastic. The taste started off with some good dry flavor, and then the bitterness kicks in early and just stays around for a long time. The bitterness is just perfect, its not too strong, its not too weak…its like Goldi Locks came into my house and offered me oral pleasure. It was just that right. I highly, highly recommended people go try this beer. If you like bitters you will not be disappointed.
Verdict: Sure Goldi, I’ll call you. Just leave me your number and here’s 10 out of 10 bottlecaps for some cab fare.
I LOVE Ruddles and Abbotts Ale. Where can I get some in New York. I will pay a premium to be able to get a taste (again) of either of these Ales.
Any help will be appreciated.
