Brewery: Harpoon Brewery, Boston, Massachusetts
Brewery Description: “Framboise, French for “raspberry”, is a Belgian-style fruit lambic. Made with more than 4,600 pounds of raspberries, 50% wheat at a gravity of 14°p it has all the makings of a great summer time beer. Highly carbonated, it produces a wonderfully pink, lacey head. The burgundy color foretells of intense raspberry aromas. A nice, sweet start finishing with a tart and acidic finish that is light and refreshing.”
Brew Style: Fruit Beer, 5.3% ABV
Recommended Glassware: Flute
The Ugly Truth: So this beer is part of the Harpoon’s 100 Barrel Series, where each of the brewers gets to make 100 barrels of whatever kind of beer they want from the ground up: reciepe, ingredients and everything else. So its essentially a home brew which makes some things about it make sense now. So for the most part this beer was good. It poured a fairly strong red color to the beer, and by red I mean crimson/ruby red not amber red. The head was also this wierd pink color, which makes sense due to the color of the beer. The taste was decent. I found it to have a strong raspberry taste that was somewhat overpowering. It almost made it seem like I was drinking carbonated raspberry juice. Not much in the way of a finish, good or bad, so it was lacking somewhat in that area. All in all, it wasn’t bad but I’ve had better beers of this style. Not sure if this one is still availabe or not.
Verdict: 100 bottles of beer on the wall, 100 bottles of beer…wait…why do I have 6 out of 10 bottlecaps in my hand if its 100 bottles of beer on the wall? Damnit!!!! WHO DRANK SIX OF THEM AND MESSED UP THE SONG!!!!
