Wychwood Fiddler’s Elbow (#45)

Brewery: Wychwood, Witney, Oxford, England

Brewery Description: “Fiddler’s Elbow is Wychwood’s golden and refreshing beer and evokes the lazy, hazy days of summer in golden meadows & ripe corn fields. This wheat-brewed refreshing summer ale is 4.5% ABV in bottle. The addition of the choicest English wheat malt perfectly complements the use of Styrian Goldings hops. The end result is a wonderful combination of citrus and floral aroma, with tart citric fruit flavours and a long hoppy fruity finish. A wonderfully refreshing beer.”

Brew Style: English Pale Ale/Premium Bitter, 5.2% ABV

Recommended Glassware: English Pint

The Ugly Truth: Wychwood has to be my new favorite brewery out of England. I’ve tried three of their offerings so far, and every one of them has been fantastic. Fiddler’s Elbow is the latest one, and it was a joy to drink as well. It’s billed on their site as a wheat brewed summer-style ale. Pours a nice deep gold color, with a good white foamy head to it. Again, Wychwood was honest in their description of it. The taste was a few steps towards the light side of things in terms of the body, and it did have a subtle citrus taste to it. The hops were most definitely present, and were perfectly balanced into the rest of the taste of the beer. Fiddler’s Elbow is a great beer, very well made and is definitely a great summer beer to drink. Highly recommend this one to everybody.

Verdict: With Fiddler’s Elbow grabbing an 8 out of 10 bottlecaps, it definitely left me on a high note.
