Brewery: Shmaltz Brewing Company, somewhere in New York or San Fransico, USA

Brewery Description: It’s the Beer You’ve Been Waiting For! A deep, bold nut brown ale beautifully balanced with rich dark malts and a complex hop character converging to reveal a simply enchanting elixir. Malts: 2-row, Carapils, Dark Crystal/ Caramel 80L, Dark Chocolate, Victory. Hops: Warrior, Cascade, Mt. Hood.

Brew Style: Dark Brown Ale, 5.5% ABV

Recommended Glassware: Dimpled mug (but I used a Shaker most of the time)

The Ugly Truth: Kosher beer. Never even imagined it would exist, but I guess it makes sense. Messiah Bold, in this humble Gentile’s opinion, is neither worthy of being called the Messiah or Bold. It was a good solid dark lager. Color was a nice deep brown, the head was substantial upon the pour and left some good rings as I drank the beer down, always a good sign. The taste was pleasant, light on the bitterness and with a good malty feel to it. The mouthfeel wasn’t overly heavy as some dark browns can get, and the finish left some sweet flavors on the palatte. All in all, a good beer, but that’s all. Messiah Bold tasted extremely generic, like someone went to the beer brewing textbook and followed the formula for Dark Brown Ale to the letter. There really wasn’t anything in this beer to make it stand out and make you take notice of it. It was good, but not great. Give it a try sometime and see what you think, but I won’t rush back to try it anytime soon.

The Ugly Truth: And the Lord did say “Upon the House of Yeti will I give the keys to my Kingdom for safekeeping, for I have 6 out of 10 bottlecaps in my pocket and hence have drank too much.”

It tasted good, but it just wasn’t anything spectacular.
