The Belgium Beer Fest (via Beer Advocate) is coming back to Boston in October (the 27th/28th to be exact). It will be held at the Cyclorama as usual. I highly recommend going if you have a chance. Friday night is supposedly a connoisseur night for the beer snobs (again, my prejudice against those who call themselves “connoisseurs” is showing) with special tastings and snacks. The last one of the events I went to was the German Beer Fest a few years back and it was full pours, not this 2oz crap. I’ve never been a fan of the tasting format, since I don’t believe you can truly grasp the life of a beer with a 2oz serving, so that news is disappointing. So I wouldn’t bother with Friday unless you have a burning desire to go to that session, since the the other session will have 150+ different offerings. If I’m going to drop the money for a ticket, I’ll take a larger variety over some crackers. Still, I recommend going if you like Belgian beers, since it should be a good chance to try a variety of beers. However, the 2oz tasting format is HUGE disappointment and dampens what should be enthusiam on my part, even though I won’t be able to attend.
Seriously, who does a 2oz tasting of beer and calls it a Festival?
I know the 2oz tasting format seems lame, but if it were full pours 4 beers into the tasting and everything would taste fantastic.
Then don’t call it a beer festival, call it a beer tasting. Even a 6oz pour would be acceptable. 2oz is a freakin’ travesty, and deepens my dislike for Beer Advocate.
It is a huge disappointment when people can’t respect beer, get shit faced at our fest and ultimately make an ass out of themselves by getting kicked out.
This is why we are using the 2oz format, so all of the lightweights, morons and weekend warriors don’t vomit on their way out because they are acting like 17 year olds at their first kegger.
Cheers!!
Jason
BTW, the Great American Beer Festival does 1oz pours … many other festivals do 2oz pours. There is a reason for it.
Oh I understand that and wholly approve of the logic now that I’m smarter. I’m just the kind of idiot you described because I made that horrible mistake several years ago. That doesn’t stop me from wanting to taste more than 2oz though.
You guys are smart and responsible to run it the way you do in all honesty. My opinion isn’t important and you guys run a much better operation than my pitiful little rantings. Hell, I’m surprised you even bothered to comment on someone like me.
Fortunately, time and experience can make great changes and after doing this for a while, I have a great deal more respect for what you guys do and whole heartedly sorry for anything negative I may have said about your operation.

BTW, I found it frightening that the man behind Beer Advocate even read this, because that means that people may actually BE reading it
No one should ever actually listen to me.
