The Ugly Truth: Fruit beer. It can either be a blessing or a curse, depending on who makes it. My good friend Dave asserts that unless a Belgian touched it during the brewing process, then fruit beer is an affront against nature. For the most part I agree with him; I hate blueberry beer, for example and people who make it and drink it should be struck down. However, I figured I’d take a risk and give this a shot. Well, honestly, I didn’t even notice it was a fruit beer until I was already out the store because I wasn’t paying attention. But nonetheless, I decided to drink it and I’m glad I did. Ephemere Apple is a very refreshing Belgian fruit beer with a great taste. It really does taste like someone took McIntosh apple juice, carbonated it, and mixed it with a Belgian white beer. The apple aroma is there without being overpowering, and the apple flavor lingers past the initial taste. The finish was very dry, I mean dry to the point where I felt I needed to drink more because it felt like it sucked the moisture out of my tongue. I also found the taste to be on the sour side, which was interesting because that’s not a common taste one finds in beers. As far as Belgian fruit beers go, its not the best I’ve ever had but is certainly not the worst. I recommend giving it a pour.
Verdict: I’m going to pick a 7 out of 10 for this one. Get it? Pick. You pick apples…ya know…my humor is so unappreciated.
I have actually had this on more than one occasion and really liked it (well, aside from the really high price).
Hmm…this one I might actually have to try.
I almost forgot to post it
Dave you should definately try it. If memory serves, its seasonal so I’d get looking.
I don’t remember it being seasonal, as it has seemed like I could grab it any time I wanted at my local Blanchard’s.
So I’ve gone back and added the brew style and ABV to all of the beers in the roster in an attempt to make things more informative.
