Yeah, no doubt the process will get cheaper, but remember last year at launch, they said it would probably take nearly 2 years of process improvements to get to break-even at the current prices. I don’t doubt that a price drop would make the decision even harder for fence-straddlers leaning towards a ps3, I’m just questioning whether MS are going to think the gain in market share is worth the cost.

True. But, although MS is bound to reduce the cost of production. They have already announced CPU upgrades that will make for cheaper production costs. In addition, the installed memory and other components are sure to get cheaper. Whether these cost-savings are passed on to the consumer or not is anyone’s guess. I already have mine, and could care less. But, I think MS could do some heavy damage to Sony if they dropped the price around Sony’s PS3 launch. Think about being able to grab a cheaper 360 and Gears of War this November. Why would you buy anything else?

The thing to keep in mind here, though, is the fact that both systems are already (or will be) selling for a substantial loss. Dropping the prices to encourage adoption isn’t a no-brainer for them at this point.

I wouldn’t doubt a price drop in the least. With the PS3s, I’d wager on a 6 month period after release (roughly) before Sony drops pricing as well if there’s any indication whatsoever of sluggish sales. The 360 is still relatively fresh on the scene and it wouldn’t make good biz sense to announce the consideration of a drop since the other new consoles are still a ways away – so if anyone wants the newest and greatest, MS is still the only option.

I wouldn’t put it past MS to drop the price come the holiday season. Even if they were planning a price-drop, they would be foolish to mention it now. I imagine there would be the fear that sales figures would drop as consumers wait for an announced price-drop. MS probably wants to do everything they can to make sure they have sold a shitload of 360s prior to the launch of the PS3.

Why do I suddenly feel the urge to go watch hours upon hours of Divorce Court now after listening to Ep 32?

I will honestly say though that there is NO way I am going to even consider a PS3 at launch. I’ll straggle along with my GC for another year or so and do it with a smile.

No problem Carl, however you do realize that everything you said in response to Colin sounds exactly like what is going on with the PS3 right now.

Am I going top buy one at launch, no way cause I can’t afford one. However if I manage to get the money for it, I will buy it over a XBox360HIVgiver.

I don’t care about WiFi, I don’t care about wireless controllers or huge hard drives and Blue Ray. I just want to play MGS4.
