Few details have been revealed, but Microsoft has announced their intent to purchase Boston-based software virtualization company Softricity today. No doubt, the virtualization technologies will find their way into the upcoming update to the Windows operating system, Windows Vista.

Edit: Ok, I was told I should mention that I worked for Softricity sometime before my blogging empire was built.  I didn’t initially mention it as I didn’t want to influence the on-going negotiations.  But, let’s face it, if MS knew Softricity was silly enough to let me go, they might re-think wanting to acquire a company that has made such an obviously poor decision.  However, I would like MS to know that I bless this union.  Don’t hold it against Softricity.  They were young at the time, still looking to find their identity.

I’m torn. On the one hand, I am still bitter about being laid off back in ‘01. But I am happy for J (assuming he still has a job), and I’m looking forward to those 17 shares or whatever I have buying me a nice value meal at mcdonalds some day. :)

Hrm, I would be torn too: Big Mac or McNuggets value meal?

You guys may want to start browsing the dollar menu on this one.

You’re bitter, Dave? I think D&D-class demons would have trouble spitting out all the vile, putrefied, bilious rancor I have for the company that gave me my first lesson in dotcom stupidity. Then again, I feel even worse about NetPlane. The General Manager at that company had me doing inventory the day before the layoff. The day before *I* got laid off. Of course, I didn’t know we were about to get laid off.

Good thing for me I slacked off as I so often did at that place, or I might have put some real work in for no good reason at all. :)

Um, just to be clear, you did collect a salary for your work while employed by both of these companies, right?

He is proud of the fact that he takes no *actual* pride in his work.

Wow, that didn’t take long. Stream Theory has just filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Softricity, AppStream, and Exent. Google news shows the press release about the lawsuit hitting the web less than 1 hour after the CNet article paraphrasing MS’s press release did.

(relevant patent can be found ovah heah)
