The folks at Skype have recently announced that SkypeOut (the service that allows you to call a non-Skype phone number from Skype) will be free for all calls from the U.S. and Canada to the U.S. and Canada. The detection software they use to determine if you are indeed located within the U.S. or Canada is not perfect, and some people are reporting problems when trying to use the service, but they are quickly responding to any issues people are having. Currently, the plan is to offer this deal until the end of 2006. From there on, they are not sure what they are doing.
