Guinness (#7)

Brewery: Guinness Brewery (St. James Brewery), Dublin, Ireland.

Brewery Description: They don’t have one because they don’t need one. Anyone out there who claims to love beer and doesn’t know what Guinness tastes like is lying to you.

Brew Style: Dry Stout, 4.1% ABV

Recommended Glass: English pint

The Ugly Truth: Are my views here even necessary? I mean its Guinness. There are few beers in the world that approach the god-like status that this beer has attained. It’s been brewed for nearly 250 years. That if nothing else qualifies it as a Brew of Legend. Did you know that they use the spent grains from the brewing process to feed cattle? There are Guinness feed cows out there, and I bet they taste damn good. Their yeast is drawn from colonies descended from the original stock used by Arthur Guinness. They actually have a small reserve culture kept in a vault just in case something happens to their working stock. Who else in the world, except perhaps Belgian monks, go to these lengths to maintain the integrity of their beer? It is one the best beers in the world and you should drink it, plain and simple. Go grab a 4 pack of cans, crack that top and hear the hiss of nitrogen as you enjoy one of the greatest beers ever.

Verdict: A well deserved 10 out of 10.

One of the few brews that, imo, aren’t well served by a bounded rating scale. Mmm.. I need me some Guinness.

  2. 2 Big Remy

Which is why we need that rating symbol that has Jesus holding a beer.

  3. 3 Dave LaMorte

I heard it is also a light beer.

  4. 4 Big Remy

That is true, only 125 calories.

Doesn’t it also have as much calcium as a glass of milk or somesuch?

  6. 6 Colin

    I think so.

    And, doesn’t it cure cancer?
    And, relieve ED?

  7. 7 Big Remy

The calcium comes from the disolved rat bones that are in the vats. I have a great bootleg from DKM talking about going on a tour of the brewery in Dublin and having one of the brewers tell them about how they drained a tank one time that hadn’t been cleaned in years and they found a pile of rat bones at the bottom. They cleaned the tank and made of a batch of Guinness and tasted like shit. So evidently the secret to Guinness is indeed rat bones.

The only beer that tastes equally great even when warm!

You know, I have yet to have Guinness warm. I should give it a shot, as I can easily imagine it being just as yummy warm.
