Another Apple Tuesday.

Well, here we sit with bated breath waiting to hear what His Holy One, Steve Jobs, announces this fine Tuesday morning (well, afternoon for us on the east-coast). The rumor-mill has been working overtime, but it seems most people expect the following:

  • Intel-based Mac mini. No iPod dock.
  • Special-edition iPod, possibly to support AIDS-awareness.
  • Full-length feature downloads at the iTMS.
  • Boombox. An iPod home-stereo appliance.

It seems that the “true video iPod” will not be revealed. And, we will likely have to wait a couple of months for the re-designed iBooks (MacBooks?) to be announced. However, since we have all been through quite a few of these announcements, we know not to get too comfortable with our predicitons. Steve seems to enjoy throwing us for a loop, and could very well do so today. Hence, we shall sit glued to our computers, hitting refresh, and wait for one more thing.

I thought his official title was “Teh Steve”?

Like many deities, He is referred to in many ways by many people.

Man, the fanboy panting seriously far outstripped what we got this time around. Sure, intel mini is nice, but jesus is that boombox expensive.

    One word: Lame.

also, as i’m just now looking at apple’s site, it’s ugly as fuck, too.

now, if they’d also managed to supply, say, a tv tuner option in the mini, or an external usb/firewire tuner, then i might have been psyched.

Well, there are external Firewire/USB2 tuners available (third-party), but a severe lack of nicely designed PVR software for OSX. At least, none that I have seen.

which is what i suppose i really meant by tv tuner option. tie the fucker into front row, or give us another app for ilife to control it. something.

maybe, like tivo, they’re waiting for the cablecard 2.0 standard so they can release something that can replace your set top box and can do digital/vod.

or, y’know, maybe they’re just wankers.

I think Frontrow needs a revamp of sorts as it seems slow and is, essentially, just a frontend to iTunes (which causes some issues). As Jay pointed out on his G5 iMac. Frontrow will just appear not to work if when opening Frontrow (which will open iTunes in the background) iTunes attempts to download and install a software update. How stupid. But, the interface is nice, which is a start. And with Bonjour now, it wouuld make for a nice media hub.
