The gift of… well… gifting.

The most personally useful thing that came out of the recent Apple announcement is the ability to gift songs, albums, and playlists. I don’t have any immediate plans to buy a fancy iPod that sorta plays video and I already own an iMac (although not near as nice as the new one). Being able to purchase specfic songs for friends and/or family is great.

For example, a friend and his wife just recently bought a new home. What better way to welcome them in than by sending Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue. Unfortunately, he isn’t the hair-metal type, but his wife seems to be (I was told she likes Skid Row and 36 37 38 Special… I hope I haven’t embarrassed anyone).

I bet there are quite a few occasions that could warrant specific songs being gifted:

  • For the person going through a divorce: Always Look on the Bright Side of Life from the Spamalot soundtrack.
  • If your kid is graduating highschool: Get the F**k Out My House by 2 Live Crew.
  • For your buddy who is on trial for murder: Can I get a Witness by Marvin Gaye.
  • Or, for your friend about to have surgery: Hurt as sung by Johnny Cash.
