The month of music shall commence tomorrow evening! Well, for Carl, I suppose it starts tonight. You see, he is attending a Tori Amos concert… which is close to an unforgiveable act.

So, I proclaim that the official start of music month begins tomorrow night when I stand in the presence of musical mastery at a Fantomas show. I only just purhased the latest CD recently. Yes… you read that correctly. I drove to the local music store, walked down the aisles, located the CD, took it the cashier, and handed over some hard-earned cash. Why, you ask? Well, for one, I like supporting independent music labels. Also, even if I could have purchased the album on iTunes, I would have missed out on all the fancy artwork. You see, the Fantomas CD is really a calendar for the month of April. If I chose to, I could hang it up in my cubicle. Rather neat and worth the ca$h-money.

Next up in music month, is a Handsome Boy Modeling School show. Going from the bipolar sounds of Fantomas, to the hip-hop genius of Mr. Automator will be interesting.

Just a couple of short days later, I am dragging an unsuspecting friend to Japanese-punk-noise-fest, ala Melt Banana. I was introduced to this fun group when they opened up for Fantomas on their last tour. I was hooked instantly.

And, finally, rounding out the month of music is Boston’s own Dresden Dolls. They will be taking a break from the tour with NIN to play a show for us Bostonians. I haven’t seen them live and am really looking forward to this show.

Maybe May will turn out to be the catch-up-on-sleep month. :)

Not everyone likes the same music you do. I don’t think the Bosstones were very good, for example. I think John Zorn is a little too odd to listen to a whole album of, and I’m not a giant fan of a lot of the other stuff you listen to.

What, exactly, is the problem with Tori Amos? Good music. Well, except for her cover of Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. THAT was close to an unforgiveable act.

Strange, I liked her cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Also, I’ve her seen in concert myself (at the Providence Performing Arts Center back in the day) and I can state with authority that it was a good show — except for the scary hippie chicks running around everywhere.

Now if you were going to the Lillith Fair or whatever, then I’d be concerned.

As for the Bosstones … that’s just weak dude. Everyone knows that they are rockers and that they fucking rock out. This is not something that people who are not also capable of rocking out Bosstones style can question.

Personally, I liked seeing Puffy AmiYumi in concert at the Paradise. Here’s hoping that they tour the states again sometime soon.

When it comes to music, I have a policy of not throwing stones, for obvious reasons. (^_^)

That is quite a nice glass house you live in. :)

As for the stone being thrown, I stand by my stone-throwing for no other reason than it caused Carl to call me a “fucking turd” via IM. That was definitely the response I was hoping for.

As far as Puffy AmiYumi… Who is cuter Puffy, Ami, or Yumi? ;)

I thought he wanted to be called P. Diddy now?

    Yeah, that’s Carl’s typical fall-back strategy. (^_-)

I think that Yumi is cuter than Ami, who is in turn cuter than P. Diddy. Yes, the cuteness relation is transitive. (^_^)

BTW, just found a live in-studio perf of “Bad Day” by the dolls.

Um, damn, make that an enitre in-studio concert…clip appears to be 42 minutes long.

I think I just liked Nirvana’s original way too much. Tori Amos’s slower, almost plaintive rendition had none of the anger or angst Cobain communicated so well.

That being said, I DID like her cover of “Losing My Religion” by R.E.M. Again, this is probably because I was never a huge R.E.M. fan, so it seemed less blasphemous.

Apparently the Dolls were also at the Tori show, though Amanda seems to take it as some kind of self-inflicted punishment.
